'SOME BIOFUEL PROJECTS FACING CHALLENGES'
(Des Moines Register) -- DesMoinesRegister.com reports that "in two short years, the hopes for next-generation biofuels have gone from bright to downright gloomy." Despite a federal mandate for biofuels made from crop residues and other sources of plant cellulose, signed into law by former President Bush in 2007, "production won't come close to that modest 100 million-gallon mandate next year, and the 250 million-gallon target for 2011 is a mirage as well." According to the story, developers are struggling to raise needed capital to start construction.
