ECONOMY'S STRUGGLE IMPACTS BEEF INDUSTRY

(Grand Island Independent) -- The Grand Island Independent reports that as the economy slows, "a new study from Kansas State University and Michigan State University shows how the beef industry can help strengthen beef demand despite the economic downturn." The beef industry is vital to Nebraska’s economy, as cash receipts for cattle and calves in 2007 accounted for 49% of all agricultural cash receipts that year. The study's authors found that "U.S. consumer demand for beef declined about 4% during 2008."
